Consciousness
Not so long ago, consciousness was not a legitimate area for scientific inquiry. Recently, it has emerged as a multidisciplinary field that integrates neuroscience, philosophy, behavioral science, biology, physics and more. As pain is a phenomenon of consciousness by definition, consciousness research has strong implications for the study of pain. Moreover, pain research offers consciousness researchers a novel window on the brain and awareness. The following links are potentially important resources for pain researchers and clinicians.
I have tried to limit the links to those that involve serious scholarship. In addition, I have omitted most parapsychology and mysticism sites, pages aimed at "expanding" consciousness, out-of-body experience pages, self-improvement sites, and "religious science" links (Yes, I know this is an oxymoron, but it exists). Unfortunately, science will have to lay claim to territory currently owned by the occult and New Age culture.

DISCLAIMER: My listing a link below does not imply that I, the University of Utah, or the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center endorse it, its mission, or the person or organization behind it. These links are here for informational purposes only.
